Trial Analysis of Variance (Trial AOV)

This subset of the database structure manages the (results of) analyses of single experiments. Raw data at the sampling unit level would typically be subject to some form of statistical analysis to estimate the efficacy of applied treatments and associated measures of precision.

Katmandoo stores the results of statistical analyses of individual experients at two levels:

• Experiment (Trial AOV Summary)
data at this level pertains to the experiment as a whole and includes quantities such as the overall experiment mean, average pairwise standard error of difference, coefficient of variation, etc.
• Treatment (Genotype AOV Mean)
data at this level refers to individual treatment results and includes estimates of the treatment means and their precision, etc.

Column Name	Description
TrialAnalysisId (PK)	Identification Number that uniquely identifies a Trial Analysis of a trial.
StatisticalModel (AK)	Text representation of model formula (with covariate information)
AnalystId (FK)	Id that identifies te analyst (contact) who analysed data.
TraitId	Id that identifies the analysed trait.
InstanceNo	Instance is number of occurance of the Trait for a trial in a day.

• Virtual columns can be added to the Trial AOV Factor and Trial Analysis Factor table.
• Trial AOV tab in the data Dictionary has detailed information on the columuns used in Trial Analysis, Trial AOV, Trial Mean and Trial AOV Factor tables.

The following information must exist before a Trial AOV can be added into the database.

• Trial: The trial (ie header information) must exist in the trial table.
• Treatment: The Treatment Virtual column that are used in the source file must exist in the database so that system can create Treatment records while importing trial analysis.
• Trait: The trait information of the must exist in the database before the trial analysis can be imported.
• Genotype: Genotype used in the Trial analysis must exist in the Genotype Table. If the genotype in the source file is alias of a Genotype, then it must exist in the Genotype Alias table.
• Contact: The analyst name must exist in the Contact table. If the analyst information is not available, then Unknown Contact should be used.

Note: Although Unknown Contact can be used, it is preferable to add the Analyst information before importing a new Trial AOV. This avoids changing at a later date.

The Trial AOV Navigator allows the user to quickly find data for analysis of single trials. The nodes of the navigator are generated using the Year and Site Name which are retrieved from the database. The nodes are sorted into Year order.

Use [ Task > Phenotype > Analysis > Manage Analysis of Variance (AOV)] to activate the AOV navigator.

Important Note: Katmandoo automatically selects the option and node that were selected last time (ie before closing the navigator or Katmadoo).

Please note that Analysis of Variance node of the Trial Navigator also allows to view AOV data but on read-only mode only!

Illustrative snapshot:

1. Year (of Year Node) on which there is at least one trial record.
2. Site Name (of Site Node) that has at least one trial in the year (of the year node).
3. When the site node is clicked, all the AOVs for the Site + Year (Wagga Wagga Agricultural Institute and 2007 respectively in the snapshot) are displayed in the Trial AOV main form.

To display Trial AOVs in the Trial AOV Main Form, follow the steps below:

• Load the Trial AOV navigator
• Click on a Site node to display the Trial AOVs for the Site + Year (Wagga Wagga Agricultural Institute and 2007 respectively in the snapshot).

3. Trial AOV subform displays Virtual column information of the selected Trial AOV.
4. AOV Summary datagid displays the mean values of the selected trial analysis in the Trial AOV Main Form.
   • Use [ View > Arrange columns in Trial AOV Summary Datagrid] to change default order of displayed. Alternately it can be changed by editing the column list of the Misc Group TrialAOVSetupDataGrid.
5. Genotype AOV Mean datagrid displays average mean of genotype for the selected AOV Summary of the Trial AOV.
   • Use [ View > Arrange columns in Genotype AOV Mean Datagrid ] to change default order of displayed. Alternately it can be changed by editing the column list of the Misc Group TrialMeanSetupDataGrid.
6. AOV Summary subform displays Virtual column information of the selected Trial AOV Summary.

Trial AOV can be added by importing from the external source file only.

To edit a Trial AOV, follow the steps below :

• Select a Trial AOV in the main form.
• Use [ Record > Edit Trial AOV ] to load the Trial AOV Setup Form to edit a trial AOV.

7. Trial Analysis Virtual column name (in second step of the wizard) can be selected from the combobox. Click here for information on the virtual column data entry datagrid.
   • Important Note: If there is not any virtual column for TrialAnalysisFactor table, then second page is disabled.
8. A value for the displayed virtual column can be entered on this part of the data grid.

Export

• Export Trial AOV
  • Select one or more rows in the main datagrid of the Trial AOV Form.
  • Click on Export button in the main form or use [ Record > Export > Export Trial AOV ] to start Export Wizard to export displayed Trial AOV and its AOV summary. 
• Export Genotype AOV Mean
  • Select one or more rows in the main datagrid of the Trial AOV Form.
  • Click on [ Export Genotype AOV Mean ] button in the main form or use [ Record > Export > Export Genotype AOV Mean ] to start Export Wizard to export
  • displayed Trial AOV, its AOV summary and Genotype AOV Mean.
• Templates
  • Use [ Record > Export > Export Trial AOV Template ] to start Export Template Wizard to export required column (to import later) into a Excel spreadsheet that can be used to enter Trial AOV Summary. The spreadsheet can be used by the Import Wizard to import Trial AOV Summary into the database.
  • Use [ Record > Export > Export Genotype AOV Mean Template ] to start Export Template Wizard to export required column (to import later) into a Excel spreadsheet that can be used to enter Genotype AOV Mean. The spreadsheet can be used by the Import Wizard to import Genotype AOV Mean into the database.

Import

• Click on Import button in the main form or use [ Record > Import > Import Trial AOV ] to start Import Wizard to import Trial AOV Summary and Genotype AOV Mean from an external source file. 
  • Select Import Trial AOV Summary option to import AOV Summary.
    • The default order of columns displayed can be changed by editing the column list of the Misc Group TrialAOVSetupDataGrid.
    • The source file must have SiteName, SiteYear, TrialTypeName and TrialNumber columns as well as StatisticalModel, Trait Name and Instance Number columns.

  • Select Import Genotype AOV Mean option to import Genotype AOV Mean of Trial AOVs.
    • The default order of columns displayed can be changed by editing the column list of the Misc Group TrialMeanSetupDataGrid.
    • The source file must have SiteName, SiteYear, TrialTypeName and TrialNumber columns as well as StatisticalModel, Trait Name, Instance Number, Genotype Name and Treatment Virtual Columns (if applicable) columns.
