The following illustrative snapshot is the facade of
Katmandoo , the Breeding Science Database.
- The Main Menu Bar of Katmandoo with
Task, View, Tools, Windows and Help menus.
- Shortcut Toolbar that can be used to go directly to the
navigators and
quick search.
- Currently
Selected Sub-system in the Sub-system drop down list box which is populated
with the Sub-systems (that current user has
permission to use). When a different Sub-system is selected, permissions
relevant to the selected subsystem are applied and the menu items are configured
to include any Sub-system specific
information.
- The workspace
where main forms will be displayed.
- The Message history
list - clicking the arrow lists the recent messages shown in message
status bar. Message
Status Bar displays the current message. The progress bar is displayed
on-demand in this area (ie it becomes visible only when the system is busy carrying
out a task).
- Current Year of
the Sub-system.
- Currently logged-in system user.
- The Status bar displays
the currently selected database (of Katmandoo) which is a SQL Server database.
Task Menu
The
Task menu is the starting point to perform
any job in the system. Click

Record Menu
The Record menu is
visible only when a
main form is activated in
the
workspace of the
Katmandoo
facade.
View Menu
The View menu can be used to
different
components in the
workspace
of the
Katmandoo facade.

- Show/hide toolbar
- When a form
is activated in the workspace of the
Katmandoo facade, the menu has additional menu items to [show/hide Detail Section
] of the currently active
main form.
- Arrange and show/hide
columns displayed in the currently active
main form.
Tools Menu
The
Tools menu is used to run system tasks.
[ Tools >
Database ] menu allows
the user to perform administrative tasks on the database.
[ Tools > Activity Log ] can be used to view activity log of user/s.
[ Tools > Change my Password ] menu allows to change password.

Windows Menu
The windows menu items are available only when a
form
is activated in the
workspace of the facade of Katmandoo.
Illustrative snapshot:
- Close Current Form ie "Manage Site Year Information" form in the example, this
can also be done by clicking the X
in the top right hand corner of the form.
- Close all the forms in the workspace.
- This area displays the forms currently in the workspace, in this example the "Manage
Site Information" form was the first form in the
workspace.
- The "Manage Site Year Information" form was the second form in the
workspace and is currently active (indicated by the tick to the left of the
menu item). Users can change the currently active form by clicking the relevant
menu item.
Help Menu
The Help menu has submenus to access the
Katmandoo help, documentation and information about
the current Sub-System and information about Katmandoo.
