Site is defined in
Katmandoo as the place or slocation
where the trial or experiment is conducted. It can be a farm, research station or
laboratory etc which are identified by
Site Type.
Location identifies location of the site. LocationAcronym
is the default "TrialAcronymSuffix" of a site when a new site is added. The
Trial Acronym Suffix can be changed as required.
A site must be assigned to the Sub-system
so that trial data of the Sub-system can be entered for the site.
Site For Sub-System
Use one of the following procedure
to assign a site to one or more Sub-systems.
- In the Site Setup Form, tick the checkbox
to allow all the Sub-systems to use the site.
- In the Sub-system datagrid of the Site Main Form, click the
toolbar button of the datagrid to update the Sub-system List (or use [ Record
> Update Sub-system List of Site ])
- Update the Site
List of Sub-system in the Sub-system
Main Form.
Trial Acronym Suffix
When a new Site is added, the
location acronym
is set as
trial acronym suffix for the site.
But it is also highly recommended to make the Trial Acronym Suffix unique for each
site. It has five characters and is used to generate
Trial Acronym of the trial that is conducted in the site.
Click
here for updating trial acronym suffix using the
Site Setup Form.
Following Import Site Wizard snapshot displays the options that can be used to create
Trial Acronym Suffix for the new sites.
- This preferred option when selected allows
system to generate unique Trial Acronym Suffix for all the new sites being imported
from the source file.
- If this option is used, the Location Acronym
is used for the Trial Acronym Suffix for all the new sites being imported from the
source file. Use this option if you already have data that uses Location Acronym
(instead of Trial Acronym Suffix) to create Trial
Acronym.
- But please note that the Trial Acronym Suffix
of the existing site can not be updated using Import Site. Use
Site Setup Form to update it.
Current Site Manager
Each site has a current (present) site manager who is the responsible Contact for
the site. So, when the site manager is changed in any time, the current site manager
should be also changed. While creating the site year record for a site, the current
site manager of the site is used as default site manager but user can change it
as required.
If the site manager information is not available,
Unknown Contact should be used.
Click
here for information on updating current site manager
using the
Site Setup Form.
Current Meteorology Station
Each site can have an associated Meteorology station. If meterology station is not
available,
Unknown Meterology
Station should be used.
Click
here for updating current meteorology station using
the
Site Setup Form.
The following information must exist before a site can be added to the database.
- Location: The name and postcode of the location (where
the site is located) must exist in the location table. If the location information
is not available, then
Unknown location should be used.
- Site Type: The site type of the site must exist in the
SiteType table. If the site type is not
avaialbe, then Unknown Site Type should
be used.
- Contact: The
current site manager name must exist in the Contact table. If the site manager
information is not available, then
Unknown Contact should be used.
Note: Although Unknown Location and Unknown Site
Type can be used, it is preferable to add the Location and Organisation before adding
a new site. This avoids changing at a later date.
The site navigator allows the user to quickly find sites located at a location.
The
nodes of the navigator are generated
using the Location Name and its Postcode which are retrieved from the database.
The nodes are sorted into location name order.
Important Note: Katmandoo automatically selects the node that was selected
last time (ie before closing the navigator or Katmadoo).
Use
[
Task > Trial > Site > Manage Site and Site Year ] to activate the
site navigator.
an illustration of the navigator template.
Illustrative snapshot:
- Filter based search (in the snapshot, only the locations starting with "c" are
loaded to generate the
navigator nodes).
- The first location node (.All Location|.All)
of the navigator, when clicked all the sites are displayed in the
Site Main Form.
- Other location nodes are generated by concatenating location names and their postcode
separated by "|" (pipe).
- Child site node (ie site name) of the Location node.
- Site Main Form displaying sites at the selected location
(ie .All Location|.All in the snapshot).
To display sites in the Site Main Form, follow the steps below:

- Site Navigator with location nodes (in the snapshot, only
the locations starting with "c" are loaded to generate the
navigator nodes).
- Site node which is the child node of
the location node in the site navigator.
- Site Main Form displaying the sites at the selected location.
- Use [ View > Arrange columns in Main Form ] to change default order of displayed.
Alternately it can be changed by
editing the column list of the Misc Group SiteSetupDataGrid.
an illustration of the main form template.
- Site subform displays Virtual column information
of the selected site (ie "Condobolin Agriculture Research and Advisory Station"
in the snapshot).
- Site Year records of the selected site (ie "Condobolin
Agriculture Research and Advisory Station" in the snapshot).
- Click to bulk insert site year for the the
selected one or more sites.

Use [ Record > Bulk Insert Site Year ] to add site year records of the selected
site for more than one year.

To merge data of a site into another site use [ Record > Merge Site data
] in the
Site main form.

- Read this important note!
- Master Site is the one that will hold data of the Slave Site.
- Master SiteId replaces all the Slave SiteIds in the database.
- Trial Acronym Suffix of Master Site.
- Slave Site.
- Trial Acronym Suffix of Slave Site.
- Authorised token.
- User must enter the exact authorised token
(case-sensitive) to merge data.
- Tips: Copy the token to a text file. Next time, copy the token from the text file
and paste here and just change the Id.
- After carefully entering all the required information, click [ Merge... ] button.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
- Since the Trial Number and
Trial Acronym of the trials of Slave Site are changed, all the stake-holders
must be informed about the merging of slave sites with master sites and new trial
acronyms.
- Site, SiteYear, and SiteSub-system and other
virtual column
information of the Slave Site will be discarded.
- THIS PROCESS CAN NOT BE ROLLED-BACK!
Use [ Record > Change Trial Acronym Suffix ] (in
Site Main form)
when you need to change current
Trial Acronym Suffix
with new Trial Acronym Suffix.
Important Note: User must inform all the users of the current database about the change of Trial Acronym Suffix because
existing Trial Acronyms of the selected site are also changed. This can potentially cause data mismatch between Katmandoo
and external data files (generated by Katmandoo for data entry files, Labels, KollecTrait etc).
