Trial type identifies a type of
trial that are done to evaluate
the genotype. It is defined for each
Sub-systems.
Current Trial Manager
The default trial manager for the trials of the Trial type. While adding trial,
then current trial manager is assigned as the trial manager of the trial but it
can be changed as required.
If the information is not available, then
Unknown Contact can be used.
Trial Acronym Prefix
The 3 character trial acronym prefix is part of the
trial
acronym. It is strongly recommended to use the first character of the Sub-system
Name as the first character of the trial acronym prefix. Remaining two characters
should resemble (or identify) the trial type name.
Important Note: Trial Acronym
Prefix must uniquely identifies each trial type in order to generate the Trial Acronym
automatically while importing trial data from a source file.
Example:Sub-system Name: Wheat Agronomy
Trial Type Name: Wheat Row Spacing
Recommended Trial Acronym Prefix (for the trial type): WRS
Click

to turn-off (hide) trial acronym.
Is Active Trial Type
Set value of this column to false to exclude
the trial types that will no longer have trial in future.
Annual Genotype List
Each trial type can have annual genotype list that can be used to preselect genotypes
while generating
trial design. The list
can be
created using setup form or
imported using a source file.
The following information must exist before a trial type can be added into the database.
Note: Although Unknown Contact can be used, it is
preferable to add the Contact before adding a new Trial Type. This avoids changing
at a later date.
Use [
Task > Trial > Raw data
> Manage Trial Type ] to load Trial Type Main Form with all the Trial
Types in the database.
Illustrative snapshot:

- Trial Year to list
the annual genotype list (3) of the selected trial type (4).
- Toolbar of the Genotype List Form.
- Genotype List datagrid displaying genotypes
for the selected trial type and year (Trial Type Wheat
Seeding Rate of Year 2007 in the
snapshot).
- Trial Type Main Form displaying all the Trial
Types that are stored in the database.
- Use [ View > Arrange columns in Main Form ] to change default order of displayed.
Alternately it can be changed by
editing the column list of the Misc Group TrialTypeSetupDataGrid.
an illustration of the main form template.
To add/edit a Trial Type, follow the steps below :
- Select a Trial Type in the Trial Type
main form to modify.
- Use [ Record > Add Trial Type ] or [ Record > Edit Trial Type ] or [ Record
> Repeat Trial Type ] to load the Trial Type Setup Form to add/edit a Trial Type.
for an illustration of the setup form template.
Illustrative snapshot:
- Trial Type Name
- Sub-system of the trial type
- Trial Acronym Prefix
- Identifies that the trial type is active.
- Click on
to reload the Trial Managers (ie Contacts) from the database.
To add/update
annual genotype list of a
Trial Type in a year, follow the steps below :
- Select a Trial Type in the Trial Type main form to
modify.
- Use [ Record > Update Genotype List ] to run Update Genotype List form.
Illustrative snapshot:
- Search
Genotype
- Click it to find Genotype Alias using Quick
Search. This is useful when you know the Genotype Alias but don't know the Genotype
Name.
- [ Included Genotypes ] list to for the selected Trial Type (in the snapshot: Wheat
Seeding rate) / Year (in the snapshot: 2008).
- Note: The list displays in [ Genotype Name | Genus Name | Selection History
] format.
- In the snapshot, [ Included Genotypes ] List has Bread Wheat, Brassica and Barley
genotypes.
- Genotypes in the [ Available Genotypes ] list can be added in the [ Included Genotypes
] list.
- Note: The list displays in [ Genotype Name | Genus Name | Selection History
] format.
- In the snapshot, [ Available Genotypes ] List displays Bread Wheat, Brassica and
Durum Wheat genotypes.
To delete all the records (eg trial, trial design, raw data etc) of a trial type,
- Select only one Trial Type in the Trial Type
main form
- If you select more than one trial, then following "Cleanup Trial Type" form will
not be activated. Instead, Katmandoo will try to delete all the genotype lists and
the selected trial types only. If any of the selected trial type have any trial
then the process will fail!
- Then use [ Record > Delete Trial Type]
If the trial type does not have any dependant data, you will be prompted to simply
delete the trial type. But if the trial type has any dependant records, then following
"Cleanup Trial Type" window will appear to let you decided what you want to delete.
Illustrative snapshot:
- Procedures you should follow.
- Selected Trial Type Name
- Use slider to tick (select) the options to delete. In the snapshpt, all the AOV,
Trial Design and Raw Datas of the trials of the selected Trial Type will be deleted.
But the Trial, Trial Operation and Trial Type records will not be deleted as
these options are not ticked.
- Authorisation Token that must be be entered exactly in the textbox below (5)
- Enter authorisation token to confirm deleting data (as explained in 4)
- Finally click it to delete records permanently from database
ie the deleted records can be recovered.
Use [ Record > Change Trial Acronym Prefix ] (in
Trial Type Main form)
when you need to change current
Trial Acronym Prefix
with new Trial Acronym Prefix.
Important Note: User must inform all the users of the current database about the change of Trial Acronym Prefix because
existing Trial Acronyms of the selected trial type are also changed. This can potentially cause data mismatch between Katmandoo
and external data files (generated by Katmandoo for data entry files, Labels, KollecTrait etc).
